Vakkaru Maldives
OT design’s head creative director Henk Janssen and his Indonesian team were responsible for the total design of this luxurious 5-star resort on the Maldives. Besides water- and beach villas we realized the restaurants, the lobby, VIP lounges on Malé airport, a kids club and several other public areas.
Beach villas
We designed two types of villas for Vakkuru island: water villas and beach villas. The beach villas are situated on the northern part of the island.
For the interior design of the villas I chose for beautiful, natural materials with soft hues, totally fitting the atmosphere.

The watervillas on Vakkaru are located at sea and surrounded by water
Besides all accessories, we also designed and crafted all of the baths.
Much of the furniture, atmospheric lighting and wall finishes, were especially designed for the Vakkuru project.
And besides the signage, our Indonesian professionals even developed the logo.
Restaurant Isoletta
One of the 4 restaurants on the island. Restaurant Isoletta is a restaurant serving typical Italian dishes, overlooking the Cabana bar and the pool. The interior is colorful and attractive.
Lagoon bar
The Lagoon bar , surrounded by sea, serves cocktails until late into the evening.
Lobby
A welcome lodge on arrival by airplane or boat: the Lobby. This imposing, open space with its low, wooden counter and comfortable seating areas are a joy for any weary traveller.
Giving guests the sense of strolling on the beach. And at the same time the sense of staying in a more than luxurious resort. That was our challenge by creating the interior design of the Lobby.
Al Fresco Poolside bar
The Al Fresco Poolside bar is an imposing bar, with its high stools and its natural finish.
Coconut kids club
The Coconut Kids club is a special place for children. All parts of the furniture are an exact copy of that of the grown ups. The result is a colourful space, fun to stay and play.
Shop
Close to the Lobby we have set up a cozy shop with various counters, a seating area and open wardrobes.
Amaany Restaurant
One of the restaurants on Vakkaru Island is the Amaany Restaurant. Here, among other things, breakfast is served in the morning. In addition to the large restaurant, there are also several terraces.
Presidential Suite
The Presidential suite has two floors, several rooms, bathrooms and a large terrace with swimming pool.
Onu Restaurant
The Onu restaurant serves Asian dishes from an open kitchen. The restaurant is arranged around this kitchen.
Vakku Restaurant
The vakku restaurant serves grill dishes until late in the evening. The tables are located directly on the beach so that you can eat with your feet in the sand.
